While the team is new, the New York Islanders have a long history with developmental teams in the American Hockey League. They were in Springfield MA, with the Springfield Indians in the 1980's and briefly in Troy, NY with the Capital District Islanders.
The Islanders split their players last seaon with their veteran minor league players playing for the Utah Grizzlies. The rest of the players spent their time with Kentucky in the AHL.
